Growing up in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Kirsten has always had an interest and passion for wildlife and the outdoors. She spent many summers camping with family and friends, taking pictures of nature and spending time on her grandparents farm.  She pursued her major in Environment and Society and graduated with her undergraduate degree in 2018.  Over the next few years, Kirsten then went on to work with the Water Security Agency as a Technical Assistant with Piping Plovers, Lake Sturgeon and Mussels.

In the fall of 2020, Kirsten joined Troutreach to pursue a project trying to figure out what Northern Leopard frogs are doing while overwintering in the prairie river systems so we can better manage instream flow and protect crucial habitats. We hope to determine the population distribution under the ice and see whether it is dependent on specific habitat characteristics as well as determine if they are eating. Kirsten loves fieldwork so she’s excited to continue that work into the colder months.
